#441...new purpose for the attic

After several months of back and forth with the historical commission, we finally have permission to turn our attic into livable space. Here are two inspiration pictures of what I am hoping the space will look like when finished.

....and here's my attic in its current state.

We are not allowed to change the roof line of our bungalow, and we are not allowed to put any windows in the side of the attic that faces the street. We are allowed to put a dormer on the back of the house, and we are allowed to put skylights in that will not be able to be seen from the street. We are hoping there is about 600 square feet of usable space up there, in which we want to create a master bath and bedroom. The project will be pretty invasive, as our plumbing, electrical and ducting currently runs every which way throughout the attic. We have to move all of our stuff out of the house. Tyler and I and our pets will be moving to our garage loft for the construction phase. We are hoping to start in September, and I'm going to spend the next few weeks documenting how the rooms in my house look today before construction commences.
