#305...pop of polka-dot

I sewed these polka-dot button tufted pillows for a client. They turned out really fun for spring, and it got me in the mood for more polka-dot decor.

#304...southwest state of mind

I can get lost looking at other people's travel photos on Flickr. I love the color palette of this Grand Canyon shot, with the purples, pinks, corals, orange and grays.
I want to try to bring some of this color scheme into my family room for spring. I bought a couple of kilim pillow covers on ebay to replace my plaid pillow covers.
Out thrifting, I found a few more things to work into my Southwest theme.

#303...bookcase styling

While in Alexandria last week, one of the projects Anna and I worked on was filling her newly built-in media center bookcases. The couple has a large collection of books, and a lot of collected little art pieces from their extensive travels.
We decided to display the books in the ever-popular rainbow color arrangement to give the cases some visual order. The bookcase is very prominent in the room, and I think we accomplished turning it into an interesting art piece with our display. For now, the media center is still lacking the TV and speakers, as you can see below, but the room feels much more livable and cozy with the bookcases filled.

#302...anna's entry

My client Anna's entry hall is one of the prettiest spaces in her freshly decorated home. The room connects the two sides of her condo, so it is a well used space, as she and her husband pass through it countless times a day. The entry is still getting some finishing touches, but here is how it has come together.
The walls are covered in a subtly textured grass cloth wallpaper. The artwork was taken by Anna's friend using a pin hole camera. The photos have a very dream-like feel to them. The Kilim rug was purchased by Anna's husband on military assignment in a far-a-way land. The x-bench, (there are actually two in the space) Anna scored on clearance at Sears for $50 each. They came covered in leopard print with brown legs. Anna had the legs lacquered black, and she and my cousin Marie reupholstered the benches in the red trellis print fabric themselves.
The light fixture in the space is stunning. Anna and her husband bought it here. It casts such beautiful light up on the ceiling and down through the delicate metal cutwork.

#301...old town

I'm spending this week in Old Town Alexandria helping my client Anna hang artwork, arrange furniture, and beautify bookcases, after a large remodel that she has been doing over the past several months. Anna is neighbors and good friends with my cousin Marie, and they both own condos in an old 1700's brick historic building that has served as a school, a hospital and a multitude of other functions over the centuries. Browsing on flickr for a picture of Old Town to share, I came across the below photo here, which is a shot of the front stairwell of their building in the spring.

#300...sol's nursery

I recently helped my client Sol put some finishing touches on her nursery. She and her husband already had all of the furniture pieces, but needed some guidance with textiles, lighting and artwork arrangement for the room. Here is the e-board I put together for the nursery.

...and here is the finished nursery, eagerly awaiting the arrival of its tiny tenant.

This nursery is home to this mini pennant flag garland

#299...oversized photography

I've been thinking about printing an oversized photo for a wall in my bedroom, inspired by these room shots.
