#260...kithaus

Tyler really wants a kithaus for our backyard.

He wants this outbuilding so that we can move my big Skutt kiln and clay slab roller out of the garage, and actually fit vehicles in the garage.
He also plans to set up a desk for himself in there, away from dogs and me,
on days that he works from home.
Purchasing a kithaus from kithaus is completely out of our budget, so for the last few months, Tyler and his Dad have been designing their own version, which they plan to build over the upcoming Thanksgiving week. The math alone involved in planning out the building is way beyond my brain, so I am really not involved in this project at all, but am super excited to see the final result. This is the spot in the yard where the building will sit....between the pool and  back fence.
...and here are their blueprints

Yesterday, the big glass doors arrived. They are large and we have no place to store them, so they got tied to our garage staircase until the project commences.

That is way exciting. I know it will be so fine, just like everything else you (or your hubby and FIL?) do!!! Good luck...can't wait to see it finished.

Christie - I have a friend in Austin whose husband built one (or had one built - but I think he did it himself???) in their backyard. I am sure they went the low cost route because they are very budget minded. It was awesome!!!

Just make sure no one cuts off any parts of their finger during assembly! ;-)

I can't wait to see the finished product, C & T! And just think, on those cold winter days in Houston(are there any?) you can fire up the kiln and stay toasty!! As always, it's fun to see your projects develop! Say hi to Ron and Peggy for us.

Hey Christie - I live in Austin and want to build a similar studio shed. Do you remember how much it cost to build yours? Ballpark is fine.

Hi Evan,
I think all in it was around 8K for us to build this ourselves.
